目前分词和过去分词做状语的用法

We bury ourselves in social activuties, consumed with gains and losses, and thus neglect our family.

上述句子中，我想用“be consumed with”做状语修饰主语“we”，我应该用“consumed with”还是“being consumed with”？

既然较复杂的动词都用上了，为何依旧用这种干巴巴的结构。逻辑关系也非常散。“社交多”不可以thus到“忽略了家庭”，consumed这句也有点中式味道，family又成了单数。
